[edit] Advisory on Samuel DowneySamuel Downey is suspected of being the spouse of Rachel Patrick, daughter of John Patrick of Augusta County, Virginia. Land records show that this Samuel's wife was named Rachel. In the will of John Patrick, he names several grandchildren named Downey, but does not name a daughter of those children, which indicates that the daughter that married a Downey had died prior to 1809. We know that Rachel Patrick, daughter of John Patrick, died in 1801 in Kentucky, so the likelyhood that this Samuel Downey is the father of the children listed in John Patrick's will, whose wife died prior to the writing of his will in 1809 makes at least a plausible case:
