In November of 1902, Samuel appeared before the Civil War Pension board to give his deposition in support of his sister-in-law, Delilah (Platz)Clark, in an effort to help her re-instate her widow's pension. I have scanned in a copy of his signature from that document.

"Samuel Clark, was born in Stark county, Ohio June 21, 1836, and died at Hudson, Ind., Friday, Nov. 3, 1905, aged 69years, 5 months and 12 days.

Mr. Clark came to Steuben county, Ind., with his parents when 14 years of age where he has since resided. He was untied in marriage to Eliza Jane Meese, March 25, 1863, and to this union were born nine children, three sons and six daughters of which seven with the mother survive. Ira Clark, of Hudson; Mrs. Myron Deller and Mrs. O. L. Baker, of York; Mrs. C.F. Hosmer, of Detroit; Mrs. Claud Ball, of Pleasant Lake; Misses Emma and Imogene Clark, of Hudson. Mr. Clark was one of the oldest pioneers of Hudson. He was a hard worker, and good citizen, kind to his family, a good neighbor, and a faithful friend. Of late years he has been unable to work on account of his increasing infirmities. The end came suddenly on Friday resulting from a stroke of apoplexy with which he was stricken on Wednesday afternoon. Surrounded by his sorrowing family and with a bright smile on his face he passed away. The funeral was held at the M.E. church at Hudson, Sunday, Nov. 5. Interment at Circle Hill cemetery, near Hudson."
