• Page 318.--28th October, 1769. Saml. Caplinger's estate appraised, by Francis Arvig (Awigand?) and George Hammer and Jacob Peterson.

• Page 315.--19th June, 1770. Dorothy Caplinger's bond (with John Poage, Peter Vaneman) as administratrix of Saml. Caplinger.

• Page 533.--18th August, 1772. Settlement of estate of Saml. Caplinger by Dorraty Likens, administrator.

• Vol. 1 - AUGUST 19, 1772. - (408) John Lickings and Dorothy, late Dorothy Caplinger, widow of Samuel Caplinger. (Note: Dorothy, widow of Samuel Caplinger had re-married John Likins by this date).

• Page 409.--__ _____, ____. Jacob Conrad's will--To son, Jacob, testator's dwelling place; to daughter, Barbara, the place she lives on (wife of Charles Hedrick); to daughter, Elizabeth, the place she lives on, bought of Christopher Thompson and James Skidmore, wife of George Fisher: to daughter Mary Conrad's two children, Margaret Barlet, John Clifton, land bought from Saml. Caplinger; to Jonas Friend, a debt to be paid; son to sign his three sisters their deeds by his Earship. Teste: Wolerey Conrad, John Skidmore, George Kile. Proved, 19th March, 1776 (translation by George Carpenter) by the witnesses. Jacob Conrad qualifies administrator.

Information on Samuel Caplinger

From "A History of Randolph County, West Virginia from Its Earliest Exploration", by A.S. Bosworth, pg. 322:

The Caplinger Family. This name is of German origin and was originally spelled Keplinger. In the early records of Pendleton (County) the name was spelled Caplinger, Kaplinger, Keplinger and Coplinger. The Caplingers were among the pioneers of Pendleton. Samuel Caplinger was the first of the name in Pendleton. He died in that county in 1769. (Note: There is some incorrect information in this publication that is in error and was omitted. It claims that Samuel Caplinger was the father of George Caplinger that died in 1773 - this is in error according to other sources. Also, Pendleton County was not formed until 1788 from parts of Augusta, Hardy and Rockingham Counties).
