  4.   Source:Bass, Charissa Taylor. Descendants of Deacon Samuel and Ann Bass, p. 79, says Samuel Bass m. (1) Elizabeth Brackett, "who died January 15, 1828, aged 78. (2) about 1786, Nancy Battles." One is tempted to ask if they read what they wrote? But several sources (e.g., Source:Crane, Ellery B. Rawson Family, p. 30) contain this error of two marriages, giving two daughters to the second wife, even though the father would have been 80 when his first wife died. Source:Bass, H. Royce. History of Braintree, Vermont, p. 111, says Samuel settled in Braintree, Vermont, in May 1785. It only shows one wife, Elizabeth, who (as above, and as found in Vermont vital records) d. 1828. It seems like the second marriage must be fictitious, the result of some undetermined confusion, and a lot of uncritical copying?
