According to the records recently received from Thomasville Baptist Orphanage ( now Baptists Children's Homes of NC Inc at Thomasville- P.O. Box 338-Thomasville, NC 27361-www.bcnfamily.org), Ruth was admitted to the facility on Feb 19, 1909 by Lula Mary Bristow Nixon and Simeon Francis Bristow. She was admitted with her brother, Simeon Judson Nixon. Both were released to Mrs Lula Nixon on May 21, 1913.

At the time of internment, Simeon Francis and Lula Mary were listed as living in Elizabeth City, NC and upon release, Mrs Lula Nixon was listed as living in Suffolk, VA.

IN 1961, Ruth wrote a letter to the Orpanage requesting that they furnish her with her date of birth, since she wanted to apply for Social Security and had no other proof of her age. The Orphange responded with the requested information. Ruth sent the request from 2304 Memorial Ave in Lynchburg, VA, which is listed as Nellie Frances (Brett) Shearin's address at that time.

The 1900 US Census lists Ruth living in Mintonsville, Gates Couty, NC and her Father listed as Thomas J. Nixson, and Mother Lula M. and her Uncle, Sidney. Proving that Census Enumerators spell Names phoenetically, Ruth is listed as Routh, and Nixon is listed as Nixson. Also living in the household was Catherine Hurdle.
