That Ruth Freeman was a daughter of Edmund Freeman's first wife can be shown, beside the implication of the name, by the fact that she was mentioned in her grandfather William Merrick's will dated 3 Dec 1688, and given equal status with his other children, meaning she was the only heir of a deceased child so was awarded the full share of the deceased child (i.e., of her mother Ruth Merrick).
