    Rol Sutton
    2/2/1926-11/17/2009

St. George, UT. Roland Clell Sutton, Jr. was born February 2, 1926 in Indianapolis, Indiana; the son of Roland Clell Sutton, Sr. and Lela Ester Grigsby.
Rol grew up in Indiana and remained a true Hoosier all of his life. Each time he would cross the state line of Indiana he would sing "Back Home Again in Indiana".
As Rol was a very bright student he was "skipped" twice during his school years. He graduated from Short Ridge High School in Indianapolis and at the age of 16 became an Aeronautical Engineering student at Purdue University where he was a member of Pi Kappa Pi fraternity. In 1947 he started working in his chosen field in San Diego, California for Convair Company which became General Dynamics. He worked for 27 years for GD and after getting an MBA he went into the Marketing Division of General Dynamics and spent three years in Washington D.C. marketing missiles to the US and foreign countries.
In 1954 Rol married Beverly Sparks and they had four children. The family moved to Northern California where Rol took a five year hiatus from Hi-Tech field and went to work for Placer County, California. Initially he was the Economic Development Director for Placer, County and brought businesses like Hewlett Packard to the county. Rol then became Placer County Executive and had over 1,000 employees working for him.
Ultimately he preferred the Hi-Tech field and became involved in the Hi-Tech Ceramics business (R & W Products) first as the General Manager. As the small company was bought by larger corporation, he became the Marketing Director of the company for many years and traveled both the US and many foreign countries, working with engineers that were developing new products needed very precise ceramics parts made for them.
Rol met the "Love of his life" (to quote him) Marilyn Manning and they were married in 1983 and later sealed in the Oakland California LDS Temple for time and eternity. They raised their son, Jim and Rol help finish raising Marilyn's two daughters.
Rol had a wonderful sense of humor, and was an extremely kind and loving man. To anyone who knew him well anything from Indiana and particularly Purdue, was the best thing on earth.
Rol loved the Gospel of Jesus Christ and served in many Church leadership positions. Rol and Marilyn retired in January 1997 and moved to St. George, Utah where he continued working as a fund-raiser for Washington County Economic Development Council. Rol and Marilyn sang for eight years in the Southern Utah Heritage Choir and so enjoyed singing at Carnegie Hall in NYC, and traveling to Armenia, with a brief stop in Moscow. They traveled to many other places on both the US and foreign trips and always enjoyed being together. He died Tuesday, November 17, 2009 after a long battle with Parkinson's Disease.
Rol is survived by his wife, Marilyn; Jim (Jodi) of Auburn, CA; Marla (Jim) Zupancic of Wilsonville, OR; Randy (Dee Dee) of Portland, OR; Ray (Monica) of Sacramento, Calif; and step- daughters Cynthia (Philip) McGrath of Colorado Springs, CO and Debra (Greg) Sikes of Irvin, CA.
