Robert Willson's will--To wife, Rachel; to daughters, Rebecca Sharril, Mary Thompson, Sarah Swink; to daughters, Rachel and Martha Willson; to eldest son, William; to youngest sons, James and John. Executors, wife and sons William and James. Teste: Wm. Wilson, Samuel and Jno. Gibson. Proved, 16th December, 1788, by Wm. Wilson and Samuel Gibson. William and James qualify.

Possible wife of Robert Wilson

There is some circumstantial evidence to suggest that Rachel Carothers may have been the wife of Robert Wilson. More research necessary to prove any relationship.

• Page 172.--21st March, 1754. Beverley by Lewis and Madison to Geo. Rodgers, 170 acres in Beverley Manor. Cor. Robert Wilson and Robert Sayers; cor. land of David Moore, deceased. (Note: this tract patented to George Rogers is the unidentified triangular-shaped tract just to the southwest of Robert Wilson's tract).

• Page 16.--15th March, 1755. John Wilson, Gent., to James McClery, James Mitchell, James McCutcheon, Robert Wilson, William Thompson, Alexander McPheeters, Saml. McCutchon, trustees chosen by the Presbyterian Congregation of the North Mountain Meeting House. £12, 10, 6; 306-1/2 acres in Beverley Manor being the tract of land whereon the house now stands commonly known by the name of North Mountain Meeting House; Cap. James Lockhart's line; for the use of the members of said congregation adhering and continuing to adhere to the Synod of Philadelphia as it stands now constituted provided that if any member or members of the said Congregation who have paid any of the purchase money of said land shall or do change or turn to any other denomination or Religion, then their part of said money be repaid them and they to have no further demands on the same. Provided that surviving trustees may elect trustees to fill vacancies, and sell the land except 20 acres to be kept for the church and graveyard. (Note: the land listed in this record is the land owned by John Wilson (relationship with Robert undetermined) located to the northwest of Robert Wilson's land (highlighted in blue in the map above)).

• Vol. 2 - Marriage Bond - 1786--September 27, Mathias Swink and Sally Wilson, daughter of Robert Wilson. Mathias is son of Lawrence Swink. Surety, Jacob Swallow; witnesses, Wm. Heart, Wm. Christian.

• Vol. 1 - John Frazier, Ann Frazier vs. Rebecca Ledgerwood, Rebecca Berry and Esther Corruthers, infant.--Spa. Chancery, 16th April, 1787. Oratrix and orator are children of Isabella Frazier. Isabella was sister to Robert Moody, now deceased, who took John Frazier and kept him until Robert's death, when John was forty years old. Robert died December, 1776 (1786?). Robert's nuncupative will 15th December, 1786. James and Robert Moody's father died intestate. Isabella Moody was their mother and administered on their father's estate. The Moodys came from Pennsylvania. John Frazier was brother-in-law of Robert Moody and they came to Virginia shortly afterwards. John Frazier died leaving five small children and a widow. Three of the children took all the land and left nothing for John and Anne, whom Robert Moody took care of. James Moody's wife died and his daughters being all married and he being an old man, he took in his son-in-law, William, and Rebecca Ledgerwood, and shortly afterwards James sold his land to his step son, Robert Willson. Then William and Rebecca took James as long as his money lasted, when they sent him back to Robert naked and destitute. Robert prepared to make a will because he found that his brother James' heirs and the Ledgerwood family in particular would come from Kentucky and take everything he had. Elizabeth Hill's deposition to same effect, 19th July, 1790. Samuel Frazier's deposition to same effect, 19th July, 1790. Rebecca Berry's deposition taken in Fayette County, October, 1789. Zachariah Johnston deposes 5th October, 1790: was born within one mile of Robert Moody's; John Frazier was accidentally killed. Rachel Wilson deposes that her husband bought a plantation from James Moody. Mrs. Mary Wilson went to Kentucky. John Brownlee deposes that he knew old Robert Moody, father of James and Robert Moody and continued intimate with the two sons after their father's death. Sarah Brownlee deposes that when she was a girl James Moody was married to her mother, a widow; James's father died and Robert and his mother kept all the estate and James never received any of the estate. John Frazier died when plaintiffs were very young, intestate, and the oldest son, Samuel, took the land. Rebecca was wife of William Ledgerwood. (Note: This identifies James Moody as the step-father of Robert Wilson. Rachel Wilson was Robert Wilson's wife; ties-into land acquisition listed above).

• Vol. 2 - Marriage Bond in Augusta County - 1789--July 20, John Gardiner and Rachel Wilson, daughter of Rachel Willson (consent); witnesses, Wm. Willson, James Willson; surety, James Gardiner. [Note: as this Robert Wilson had died in the previous year, Robert's wife Rachel gave her consent to the marriage of her daughter].

• Page 35.--16th August, 1791. James Wright and Alexander Wright, sons and devisees of William Wright, deceased, and Elizabeth, wife of James, of Augusta, to Jacob Bear, 260 acres in Beverley Manor, part of tract originally surveyed for Joseph Mills, and sold to Robert Wilson and Jno. Holmes by deed which was conveyed to said William Wright, deceased, by John Holmes, February, 1748.

Wilson DNA Project

• 54449 - Robert Wilson, date of birth unknown, but died in 1768 in Augusta County, Virginia (will dated 9 Sep 1768). Descendants moved from there to Missouri in the 1820's and then to Colorado in the 1880's.
