The story is told that the Scotts and the Eliots were not the best of friends. Apparently the Scotts had taken some of the Eliot's land. Margaret crawled through the window to marry Robert. Robert and his son Robert along with Archibald Dickson came to Canada in 1833. They settled at Roxboro, Ont, a part of the Huron tract. The rest of the family came the following year. Robert built a grist mill on the Maitland River.
