2/1/1996 KNOTTS, ROBERT J., JR. Robert J. Knotts, Jr., 87, of Steer Creek Community, Stumptown, died Thursday, Jan. 25, 1996, at his home following a long illness. He was born in Euclid, a son of the late Robert J. and Lillie M. Mace Knotts.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was a graduate of Calhoun County High School, Class of 1930. He was retired from White Motor Co., Cleveland, Ohio, and was a member of United Auto Workers of Cleveland. He was also a former school teacher in Calhoun County, owned and operated a car agency in Grantsville, and was a former self-employed mechanic in Grantsville. He was a member of Rush Run Baptist Church, Stumptown, where he served as a Deacon, Sunday School Superintendent and Adult Bible Class Teacher. He was a charter member of Calhoun County Historical and Genealogical Society and was recognized as one of the area's authorities in local history.

Surviving are his wife, Hazel Collins Knotts, whom he married in 1935; two sons, James Earl Knotts of Mineral Wells and Thomas Mark Knotts of Corning, N.Y.; one daughter, Norma Jean Shaffer of Grantsville; one brother, Walter Knotts of Massillon, Ohio; seven grandchildren, Sharon Lynn Shaffer, Norma Jean Shaffer Schroader, Carol Ann Shaffer Myers, Roberta Jo Shaffer McKee, Aleacia Jolette Knotts Peer, Christopher Jay Knotts and Adam Brett Knotts; and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by three sisters, Ruby Strimple, Daisy Stump and Pansy Kanyak; three brothers, William Bryan Knotts, Russell "Dubb" Knotts and Henry E. Knotts; and two infant grandchildren. Services were held at Stump Funeral Home, Grantsville. Burial was in Knotts Baptist Church Cemetery, Orma.
