"This English family was from Washington County, Georgia, Robert, in my line, was born in Georgia. They moved to Cape Girardeau, Missouri, around 1805, give or take a year or two. Robert Jr. came to California during the Gold Rush, went home to Missouri and wanted to move his family to California. His Uncle Simeon talked him into moving to Texas, and if he did not like it there he could go on to California. Which he did [i.e., moved to Texas] before moving to California. Robert built his Uncle Simeon a house before he moved. Simeon settled in Red River County, Texas. And Robert moved to California in the early 1860s, to Santa Ana, where he built the first home in Santa Ana. He also had a homestead in San Luis Obispo County, California. Oliver English never married, he is in the English Cemetery, there in English, just outside of Clarksville, Red River County, Texas. The settlement was called "English" and Oliver was the postmaster and had a store there."
