According to the Fasti of the Irish Presbyterian Church, Robert Criaghead was born in 1633 in Scotland. He attended St. Andrews University where he received his M. A. in 1653. He was ordained in Donoughmore, County Donegal, Ireland, where he received tithes in December 1658. He was deposed for nonconformity in 1661, but continued to minister. He went to Scotland, where he officiated in Glasgow from 1689 to 1690. He was installed in Derry in 1690. He took part in the controversy with Dr. King, Bishop of Derry from 1694 to 97. He returned to Scotland in 1698 and was admitted to Blackfriar's, Glasgow the same year. He returned to Derry around 1699 for on October 1699 Derry asked the Laggan Presbytery for an assistant to Mr. Craighead. The congregation called his son, but he refused. Robert died at Derry, August 22, 1711. He the author of several theological works. He was appointed by the General Synod to prepare part of the history of the church. He married Agnes, daughter of Rev. John Hart, Taughboyne. The Rev.'s Robert Craighead of Capel Street, Dublin and Thomas Craighead, Castlederg and the US were sons.
