Richmond Dugger was born before ca 1774 in Brunswick Co., VA. “Richard Dugger” was bondsman (with Daniel Dugger and James Brown) for the 24 Jan 1791 marriage bond for Jerman Dugger and Mary Raney in Brunswick County. On 14 Nov 1795 Richmond Dugger witnessed a deed from Burge to Burge. (Brunswick Co., VA Deed Book 16 page 239). On 14 Dec 1795 Richmond Dugger and Henry Morris Sr were bondsman for the marriage bond of James Stainback and Elizabeth Dugger (Richmond’s sister). In 1796 (no date, recorded 24 Oct 1796), John Dugger Jr, Richmond Dugger and James Stainback witnessed a deed from Ichabod Marshall to Daniel Dugger. (Brunswick Co., VA Deed Book 16 page 379). On 20 Aug 1796 Daniel Dugger, James Stainback and Richmond Dugger witnessed a deed from Owen to Lundie. (Brunswick Co., VA Deed Book 16 page 440). Richmond Dugger was listed on the 1797 Brunswick Co., VA tax list. On 30 Sep 1798 Richmond Dugger and wife Elizabeth, sold 346 acres to William Edward Brodnax for L228. The land was on the south side of Reedy Creek being land of Mark Crowder who willed it to his children, one of them being Elizabeth Dugger. Witnessed by John Dugger, S. Dugger and William Ruffin. (Brunswick Co., VA Deed Book 17 page 536). On 22 Apr 1799 Richmond Duggar obtained a marriage bond to marry Elizabeth Crowder, age 21, in Brunswick County. This is several months after the deed above where they were already listed as husband and wife. In Oct 1800 court, Robert Harrison, assignee of John Dugger, executor fo John Bennett sued Daniel Dugger and Richmond Dugger for debt. (Brunswick Co., VA Order Book 19 page 417). In 1801 Hubbard Saunders, William Fortiscue, Richmond Dugger, Henry Harwell and Elizabeth Dugger witnessed a deed from Thomas Firth and wife Nancy; Randolph Rawlings and wife Elizabeth; Howell Dugger and wife Mary; John Rainey and wife Sally, Henry Abernathy and wife Rebeckay to William Firth. (Brunswick Co., VA Deed Book 18 page 334). Richmond Dugger was one of many purchasers at the 10 Feb 1802 estate sale of John Dugger Jr. (Brunswick Co., VA Will Book 6 page 468). On 6 Apr 1802 John Dugger Sr made his Will and named (among others) his “grandson Richmond Dugger.” (Brunswick Co., VA Will Book 6 page 467). On 26 Nov 1804 Daniel Dugger sold land to Richmond Dugger for $1.00 on Gravelly Run. (Brunswick Co., VA Deed Book 19 page 206). On 1 Jan 1807 James Dugger sold his ⅓ shared in Hannah and her two children Jane and Sarah, to Richmond Dugger for $120. Witnessed by B. Rawlings, Thomas Randolph Rawlings. This being the same Negro left to James by his grandfather John Dugger in his Will. (Brunswick Co., VA Deed Book 20 page 479). On 27 Feb 1809 William Kirkland deeded 25 acres to Richmond Dugger for L25. (Brunswick Co., VA Deed Book 21 page 33). Richmond Dugger was listed on the 1810 census in Brunswick Co., VA. Analysis:
In Feb 1810 Court, Richmond Dugger and James Dugger were granted administration of the estate of Daniel Dugger (their father). (Brunswick Co., VA Order Book 23 page 293). On 5 Nov 1810 William Kirkland, Richmond Dugger and James Dugger made a mortgage deed. Witnessed by Harriet B. Dugger, Nancy B. Dugger and Thomas Ray. (Brunswick Co., VA Deed Book 24 page 318). Richmond Dugger was not named in the Nov 1811 or Jan 1812 court records naming the heirs of Daniel Dugger, deceased. (Brunswick Co., VA Order Book 24 page 357, 514). In Feb 1811 court Richmond Dugger was appointed guardian of (his brother) Henry Dugger, orphan of Daniel Dugger, deceased. (Brunswick Co., VA Order Book 24 page 134). In Mar 1815 court Richmond Dugger was granted administration of the Estate of Benajah Saxon. William M. Dugger was his security. (Brunswick Co., VA Order Book 26 page 243). In Jan 1816 court Charlotte Dugger, administrator of Thomas Dugger, sued Richmond Dugger in his own right and also in his role as administrator of Daniel Dugger deceased. A commission was appointed to sell the slaves which John Dugger Sr left to Fanny Dugger. Charlotte received ⅓, Richmond received ⅓ in right of his purchase from James Dugger, and ⅓ went to Richmond Dugger as administrator of Daniel Dugger. (Brunswick Co., VA Order Book 26 page 444). In Mar 1816 court, Charlotte Dugger, administrator of Thomas Dugger again sued Richmond Dugger in his own right and also as administrator of Daniel Dugger. An account of the Negroes of John Dugger, deceased was included. Mary Dugger received Hannah and child. Henry Rose received Alfred. Richmond Dugger received Love. Elizabeth Stainback received Benjamin. (Brunswick Co., VA Order Book 26 page 36). In Jul 1817 the court ordered an audit of the accounts of Daniel Dugger’s Executors Richmond Dugger and James Dugger. (Brunswick Co., VA Order Book 27 page 352). On 13 Aug 1818 Benjamin Marshall of Franklin Co., VA gave his friend Richmond Dugger of Brunswick Co., VA power of attorney to receive any monies due to him as legatee in the estate of Daniel Dugger. (Brunswick Co., VA Deed Book 24 page 447). On 15 Oct 1819 — Shell deeded 59 acres to Richmond Dugger. (Brunswick Co., VA Deed Book 24 page 370). Richmond Dugger was listed on the 1820 census in Brunswick Co., VA. Analysis:
On 1 Jan 1820 Richmond Dugger and wife Elizabeth deeded 90 acres to William T. Pennington for $1000. (Brunswick Co., VA Deed Book 24 page 433). On 17 Jan 1820 Richmond Dugger, as attorney for Benjamin Marshall, made a deed for 28 acres to Wright Griffin for $112. (Brunswick Co., VA Deed Book 24 page 454). On 20 Dec 1820 Richmond Dugger was bondsman for the marriage of George W. Blanch to Nancy B. Dugger (his daughter) in Brunswick Co., VA. On 29 Jan 1823 Richmond Dugger made his Will in Brunswick County. He named:
