Richard Sander was city surveyor He had role in many improvement projects BY SHARON MORGAN The Cincinnati Enquirer Richard "Dick" Sander, a registered surveyor in the engineering department for the city of Cincinnati, died of cancer Tuesday at his Price Hill home. He was 72. Mr. Sander had a good sense of humor and enjoyed his work, relatives said. "He was proud of his position, because he kept everything in a photo album," said a daughter, Kathleen Maguire of Price Hill. Mr. Sander started with the city on April 1, 1944. He had served as a junior and senior engineering aide. In 1956, he was promoted to survey crew leader. He was instrumental in many major public works projects in the downtown and riverfront areas. He was assigned to the West Eighth Street through Queensgate area, Government Square Metro bus boarding facilities, Yeatman's Cove Park, the Riverfront Stadium's base line, the sewer network and the central garage plaza, Riverfront Coliseum's pedestrian bridges and the core area skywalk system. He obtained a state license as a registered surveyor in 1969. Mr. Sander retired in 1978. His wife, Ruth, preceded him in death. He is survived by: five other daughters, Barbara Sander of Albany, N.Y., Nancy Genser of Burley, Idaho, Beverly Belier of Bridgetown, Sally Adams of Price Hill and Cindy Sander of Missouri; four sons, Richard Sander of Canton, Mich., Michael and Timothy Sander, both of Price Hill, and Jeffrey Sander of Batavia; two sisters, Ruth Sander and Rita Gau, both of Western Hills; and 15 grandchildren.
