References
  1. Pierce, Frederick Clifton. Pearce genealogy: being the record of the posterity of Richard Pearce, an early inhabitant of Portsmouth, in Rhode Island, who came from England, and whose genealogy is traced back to 972. (Rockford, Illinois: unknown, 1888).

'Richard18 founded Pearce Hall in York, England, where he lived and died leaving an eldest son Richard19, Jr.

Richard19, Jr. resided on the homestead of his father and had two sons Richard20, Jr., b. 1590, and William. It was at this time that the spelling of the name in this branch was changed form Percy to Pearce.'

Note: The son William was supposedly Capt. William Pearce, but his ancestry has never been established. The lineage from Ralph Percy to Richard Pearce presented in this book without the support of primary sources is considered to be without substance, as there is no evidence for Peter Percy (supposed grandfather of this Richard Pearce), and there does not appear to be a Pearce Hall in Yorkshire.
