Richard graduated from Howard High School in 1925. Attended University of KS; lived in Sonoma, CA and worked many years in Mare Island Navy Yard; retired to farm in Oakland, OR., then Tucson, AR.

Richard Elmore Andrews, a retired ship fitter, died suddenly Wednesday, 11/13/96, of heart failure at his home. He was 88. Mr. Andrews was born in Goodwell, OK. and lived in Tucson for the last 7 years. He retired from Mare Island Naval Shipyard, Vallejo, CA in 1962. He was a member of the Cactus Community Church of the Nazarene. Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Florence Morgan Andrews; daughters, Bonnie D. Sweeden (Carl) and Evelyn A. Sweeden (Robert); and sons, Richard L. Andrews (Dottie) and Paul J. Andrews (Linda); foster children Frank Alphin, Adele Alphin Santiago, and Karl Crawford; sisters, Clarice Andrews Anderson of Olney, MD and Mary Ellen Andrews Snodderley of Howard, KS; brother Albert M. Andrews of Wichita, KS and 12 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by 5 sisters. Organs and tissues were donated to the Anatomic Gift Foundation of Arizona, Inc. for research. A memorial service was held Saturday, November 23, 1996 at 11:00 a.m. at Cactus Community Church of the Nazarene, 3999 S. Mission Rd. Tucson, AZ. The remains were cremated and the ashes will be scattered.
