Reginald George Allen was born on 1st November 1886 at Plymouth in Devon, son of Mary Ann Allen, formerly Harry, and her husband John Burridge Allen, a naval pensioner. Reginald was baptised when a few weeks old, at which time the family was living at 3 Claremont Place, which was also his maternal grandmother's home.

Reginald appears in the 1891 census living with his parents and siblings at 15 Wake Street in Devonport, where the family of seven people lived in two rooms.

Sadly Reginald died as a boy of just eight years old in 1895.

    Although the initials here are wrong, there is no evidence of a G.B. Allen from the births index around this time, whereas Reginald George was known to be alive at this time and is otherwise missing. We also know that some of the children were known by their middle names (notably Winifred May), so it may be that Reginald's initials have been transposed to G.R. and poor copying led to it appearing as G.B. on the surviving census returns.
