Rebecca James was born 30 Jun 1776 in Poplar, daughter of waterman Robert James and his wife Susannah Worland. She was christened at St. Dunstan and All Saints Church on 28 Jul 1776.

On 24 Nov 1794 Rebecca married John Egalton, a waterman, at St. Matthew's Church. They had at least 12 children, all born in Poplar:

John (or possibly his son John) was a witness at the marriage of his daughter Rebecca in 1820. He is not with his wife in the 1841 census so had probably died.

In the 1841 census Rebecca was living with her son Richard in Regent Street North, Poplar. She died of "bronchocele" at the age of 73 at 52 Regent Street on 23 Sep 1849, and was buried on 1 Oct 1849 at All Saints Church, Poplar.

John and Rebecca's child Joseph Egalton married Eliza Ingram, daughter of Owen Skinner and Hannah Ingram. Their gr-gr-grandchild Henry Charles Young married Rosetta Whitfield, the gr-grandchild of Owen and Hannah.
