- ↑ The reported date and place of Rebecca's birth varies widely:
abt 1807, Delaware (1850 census) abt 1818, Pennsylvania (1860 census) abt 1820, Delaware (1870 census) abt 1817, New Jersey (1880 census) abt 1818, Philadelphia (death certificate)
The 1915 death certificate of Rebecca's daughter Louise (Smith) Haines gives Rebecca's birthplace as Delaware. The 1911 death certificate of Rebecca's daughter Mary (Smith) McLean gives a more precise location of Wilmington, Delaware.
Rebecca's first known child, Louise, was born in 1832. Her last known child, Emmaline, was born in 1852. If Rebecca had an 1807 birthdate, she would have been about 25 at the time of Louise's birth and 45 at the time of Emmaline's birth. An 1820 birthdate would make her about 12 when Louise was born, and about 32 when Emmaline was born. With a birthdate of 1817, Rebecca would have been about 15 when Louise was born and about 35 when Emmaline was born. --Lauren 11:22, 24 February 2009 (EST)
