This is our ancestress; unknown until Joe Harvey Howard told me about her in August, 1993. Said he was sending me a bunch of material he had discovered in his research.

Rowan Co., NC; Lease & Release from JOHN DICKIE & wife RACHEL to Hugh Montgomery for 543 acres, Oct. 9-10, 1765.

We found Rachel's grave at Centre Presbyterian Church, Mt. Mourne (near Mooresville), Rowan Co., NC. Took a picture.

Joe Harvey said Rachel's maiden name was TANNER. Her father was PHILIP TANNER. John Dickey's parents were: GEORGE DICKEY and MARGARET ______. George's father, ROBERT DICKEY was born in Scotland.

Joe said JOHN and RACHEL came through Pennsylvania to South Carolina, first. The climate and conditions were not to their liking, so they moved north to Rowan Co., North Carolina.
