Birth and Parents

Although Polly was raised by Asa Goodall and his wife Martha "Patty" Liscom, she is said to have been Martha's niece.[1][5] An early researcher identified her father as John and stated that she was born on Cape Ann, Massachusetts on 11 December 1788,[1] but he did not identify his source. A record of her birth does not appear in the Early Vital Records of Massachusetts for Gloucester or other nearby communities.[6] Martha Liscom did have a brother John, who did serve as a Private in the Continental Army, serving with others from the Gloucester area, and it is possible that Polly is his daughter. Where John went after the war is unknown, but he is not the Captain John Lyscom of Brookfield in Worcester County, Massachusetts. That John was a long-time resident of Worcester County, served in the War from there, and continued to live there after the war.[7]
