Deposed in Essex County Court, Nov. 1669, age 45, so born about 1624. Deposed in Middlesex County Court, 18 Dec 1672, age 49, so born about 1623. Notes of an English genealogist suggest birth in 1623 in London to Jacob Reade and Jane Audye, attractive because first son named Jacob, but proof not found. Apparently was in Norwalk, CT, 1667. Moved to Concord, MA, about 1669.

[Note: McCracken in S1 suggests this may be inaccurate, since a deed dated 4 Jan 1693/94 shows Abigail Read widow of Philip, along with Jacob Read and Philip Read, sons of Philip, all of Concord, selling property to Samuel Hartwell.]
