According to Mildred Smith Heffley, Philip L. Schmidt was a heavy drinker. She also remembers that they ate off of metal dishes. (I wonder if these dishes came from Betz & Sons earthenware?)

Mildred also said that Philipp and Elizabeth were forced to move off Cayuga (about 1924; Public School 39, which was behind the house, expanded), after which they moved to Lisbon Avenue, off Bailey.
