Facts and Events
Peter and his brothers Nicholas and Anthony are recorded in 1635 living in Saugus, MA. They were Quakers. In 1637 the three are in Sandwich, Plymouth Colony. At Sandwich each was granted land, and they remained there until 1653. In 1653 the Wright brothers joined about a dozen families under the leadership of Rev. William Leverich whose purpose was to form a new settlement on Long Island. The company journeyed aboard the sloop "Desire" of Barnstable to Oyster Baye, where soon they negotiated a deed for lands from the Asiapum, also known as Mohensis, in exchange for utensils, wampum, and currency in total valued about 4 pounds sterling. Many of the stories of this extended family involve persecution for their Quaker faith. References
