Facts and Events
Peter Rice was born on 5th February 1902 at Longhill in the parish of Glasserton in Wigtownshire, Scotland, son of Margaret (Maggie) Rice, formerly Miller, and her husband Peter Rice, a ploughman. Peter was the youngest of his parents' four children, but two of the older siblings had died before he was born. He also had a half-sister who was about 24 years older than him. Peter appears in the 1911 census living with his parents at 6 Glasserton Street in Whithorn.
By the early 1920s Peter was living at Shore Cottages in the hamlet of Ardwell in the parish of Stoneykirk. He was informant for both his parents' deaths; his mother died in May 1921 and his father died in August 1922.
He later emigrated to Australia, settling in Victoria. He died at Prahran, near Melbourne, in 1969, aged 67.
