Keats, Kan.--A 21 year old Kansas City man was killed Sunday in a 1-car accident near here. The Riley County Police Department identified the victim as Peter Berkley Curtis, 7619 Loma Vista Drive.
Officers said Curtis was a passenger in a car driven by Thomas Elam, 22, Manhattan, Kan. the car rounded a curb and hit a narrow bridge on Riley County road 412 about three miles west of here, they said, and both men were thrown from the car.
Elam was listed in critical condition in the intensive care unit at Manhattan Memorial Hospital yesterday.
Curtis was graduated from Ruskin Heights High School in 1973. He would have been a junior at Kansas State University this year.
He leaves his parents, Mr. and Mrs. George M. Curtis of the home; a brother, Andrew Curtis, Charleston, S.C.; a sister, Miss Lisa Curtis, Sullivan, Mo.; his paternal grandmother, Mrs. Irene Curtis, Independence, and his maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Leonard, Sedan, Kan. Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Carson Blue Ridge Chapel; burial in Floral Hills Cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. tonight at the chapel.
