Peter Bulkley or Bulkeley (January 31, 1583 – March 9, 1659) was an influential early Puritan preacher who left England for greater religious freedom in the American colony of Massachusetts. He was a founder of Concord,[1] and was named by descendant Ralph Waldo Emerson in his poem about Concord, Hamatreya.

Legacy

In his will, dated 14 Apr 1658 and proved 20 June 1659, he identifies himself as "Peter Bulkely, minster of the Word, being now in the seventy-six year of my age" [Age 75 on 14 Apr 1658, so born about 1683]. He names his son Edward (married), John (in England), the widow of his deceased son Thomas, son Eliezur, son Joseph, cousin Mr. Samuel Haugh, daughter Dorothy, and his "dear wife" (unnamed). He made a codicil on 13 Jan 1658/9 and another on 26 Feb 1658/9.
