!BIOGRAPHY: Information from Baker book page 21. A butcher by trade, he lost his right arm by having it so badly crushed in a factory at Red Mills, Poughkeepsie, that it had to be amputated. Had it not been for the quick work of his colored servant he would have been ground to death. He died of a broken hip on March 12, 1871, while visiting at Mechanicville. Peter and Jane had a ninth child, a son who died in infancy.
