Their children are Margaret, 20; Emery L., 18; George, 16; Theresa, 6; and Emeranda, 2 -- all born in Indiana [Ia on census].  There are two other children: Permelia, 12, born Kentucky; and Cyara or Zara, 11, born Indiana - daughters of his brother William Jonas Shankland.  {p.169}
 According to 'Descendants of William Shankland', she married Amaziah Ratcliff.
 "In 1867 in Dawson he wedded Permelia Shankland, who died in 1875, leaving three children: Ida, the wife of Edward Pierce, a business man of Buffalo, Illinois; Effie, the wife of Samuel Huckleberry of Springfield; and Anna, the wife of Edward Crane, of Dawson...
