ORLANDO was said to have owned or operated either a furniture manufacturing company or store in Grand Rapids, Michigan, around the turn of the century. He is listed in the Michigan Veterans Census of 1894 and was living in Vermontville, Eaton County. He was a farmer.

Taken from: The Story of Grand Rapids: A Narrative of Grand Rapids, MI Z.Z. Lydens, Editor Kregel Publications, Grand Rapids, MI 1966 pp.318:

"Gunn Furniture Co., formed in 1898, was successor to the Gunn Folding Bed Co., organized in 1890. It manufactured office furniture and sectional bookcases in it's plant on Ann Street. Sixteen employees of the company purchasedf stock in 1919 and became co-owners with William Gunn who was president at the time. The firm was reorganized in 1934, and J. P. Homiller was named president. In 1949 a group headed by Edsko Heckman bought it, and in 1953 it changed hands again, to Bergsma Brothers Co."

Pages 320-321 continue with the story of Imperial-Bergsma Furniture...later Bergsma Bros.

"L.G. Gunn rather than the name Orlando is listed on Ernest's death certificate as father; however, family always referred to Orlando as being his father." Message Board from Patricia Tejeda (tejedap@vcss.k12.ca.us)
