Nathan Noyes, b. ca. 1597/8; d. at Salisbury, Wilts., 6 Sept. 1651; m. say 1620 Mary ----- who survived him. Nathan matriculated at Lincoln College, Oxford 19 May 1615, aged 17; B.A. 26 Oct 1616. In 1621 he succeeded his father at Cholderton and was chaplain to the Parliamentary visitors in 1649. In his will, written 28 August 1651 and proved 18 Nov 1651, he calls himself of West Cholderington and names his son Nathan, to whom he gives all his books except those conditionally to his wife Marie, the poor of St Edmunds parish in New Sarum, his daughters Margaret, Marie, Elizabeth and Abigaile, his kinsman Edward Noyes, several poor people, Master John Stricland pastor of St Edmunds, and Master William Hunt, minister of West Harnham. His monumental inscription states, "Here lyeth interred the body of Mr. Nathan Noyes, a godly, painful and constant preacher of God's word at West Choldrington in this county for the space of 32 years, who departed this life the 6th day of September An. Do. 1651. His age was 54 years."
