From Rich Holmes

Identification of the Nathan Holmes who appears in Norwich vital records with this son of Jabez is made on the basis of geographical proximity, plausible age, and the fact that son William's middle name was Jabez's wife's maiden name.

From Margaret Harris Stover's article on Samuel Holmes of Montville, Connecticut in the Mayflower Quarterly (references omitted)

On 16 Feb 1838 Lydia Holmes with Francis W. Bushnell was appointed guardian of Josephus B., Louisa B., and William H. Holmes. Frederic Prencice was appointed guardian of the three children 13 April 1840, their mother Lydia deceased. On 26 mar 1841 Bartlett Holmes was appointed administrator of the estate of Lydia Holmes late of Norwich.

Children (Holmes) recorded at Norwich.
