Facts and Events
"She was born not far from Cincinnati into a prominent family. Her father came from France with General Lafayette who assisted George Washington during the War of Independence. The family settled in Virginia then moved to near Cincinnati, Ohio. She was just 14 when she Married William Montgomery Wray, a man 25 years older than she. After their marriage they moved from place to place in Ohio, always moving north. Her husband left her with several children and went to Niles, Berrien County, Michigan looking for a place to settle. He returned and moved his family in the dead of winter with an oxen team and wagon, undergoing much hardship, to Michigan. She lived 37 years longer than her husband. Family legend has it she was only 4 feet 11 inches tall and had red hair almost up until she died. A copy of her obituary appeared in the Niles Mirror dated January 21, 1883 and told much about her life."S1 References
