Obituary

Nancy Elizabeth, eldest daughter of John and Sarah Carter was born September 13, 1852 in Auglaize county, Ohio.

She was united in marriage with George Adam Smith April 20, 1872. To this union was given nine children; the three eldest, Frank, Simon, and Elzy, also her husband have preceded her. Remaining of her family are five sons, Floyd, Wayne, Walter, and Carl of near Fremont, Ind., and Clarence of Branch county, Mich.; one daughter, Mrs. Jay Huss of near Fremont, Ind.; twenty grandchildren, and twenty-four great-grandchildren.

She is survived by four half-sisters, Mrs. William Dargitz and Mrs. Nettie Myers of Bryan, Ohio; Mrs. Iona Harden of Lima, Ohio; and Mrs. Emma Billman of Union City, Mich.; also, three half-brothers, Peter, Andrew, and Charles of Keefer, Oklahoma.

Her whole life as a Christian mother and companion was spent in Clear Lake township. She was given to hospitality, always concerned about the needs of her family, neighbors, and strangers that came to her home.

During her last illness of nearly four years, she had been cared for in the home of her daughter, where she passed away from this life July 16, 1939, aged 85 years, 10 months and 3 days. Funeral services were held in the home on Wednesday afternoon July 19, conducted by Rev. Ralph Rader of the Nevada Mills Methodist Church. Burial in Teeters Cemetery, Clear Lake township.
