Facts and Events
The following is made available but should be used with caution. The index of Recruits in the Co. C, 48th Ind. Volunteers (found at http://www.civilwarindex.com/armyin/soldiers/48th_in_infantry_soldiers.pdf) verifies that Moses did serve but his name was Moses Punches. It is also Punches on the 1870 and 1880 census records. So if the author got his name this wrong, are the dates also questionable? So use the following general historical references but double check the dates with other sources. The index of Recruits show that Moses Punches was mustered 3 Nov 1862 and mustered out 29 Jul 1865. (pg 455) Note also that the bio below has Mary Jane 'Pimches' married to Levi Gears. On their marriage record her name is Jenny Punches and his is Levi Gears even though on subsequent census records and his tombstone his name is Zears. Copied from St. Joseph County Biography Ref. Page [http://debmurray.tripod.com/stjoseph/stjbioref-29.htm#mpimches http://debmurray.tripod.com/stjoseph/stjbioref-29.htm#mpimches] Moses Pimches was born in Fayette, Seneca county, N.
