Acquisition of Land from Chalkley's:
- Page 7.--2d February, 1754. Andrew Bird to Moses Bird, on Smith's Creek. Andrew Bird's line; Jno. Phillips' line, 350 acres, part of 400, 50 of which were surveyed for Jacob Rambo by deed. Teste: Abraham Bird. Delivered to Jno. Skean, February, 1758.

- Northern Neck Land Grants: O-324: Andrew Berger of Frederick County, 190 acres on North River of Shannandoah in said County. Surv. Peter Stephens, Adj. Henry Tomute[?], Ulrick Pitzer, Mounts Bird. 25 Oct. 1770. [Virginia Northern Neck Land Grants, 1742-1775, Vol. 2, Gertrude E. Gray, pg. 207].
- Vol. 2 - Hawkins vs. Byrd--O. S. 267; N. S. 94--Bill, 1813--Complainants are, viz: Benjamin Hawkins and Madeline, formerly Madeline Byrd, daughter of Mountz Byrd, who died, intestate, leaving widow Clara and 8 children, viz: Abraham, William, Mountz, John Byrd, Ingabough (married to Isaac Gore), Sarah (married to John Moore), Mary (married to Cornelius Newman), and oratrix. Mountz, Sr., owned land in Shenandoah. Complainants live at Virginia.

Mounce Bird, who served as a soldier in the American Revolution, lived in a two-story stone house on the east side of Smith Creek about 3 miles north of New Market, Virginia. In the attic of his home were small port holes designed to shoot from--defense against Indian attacks. As of 2009, his home is still standing, has been beautifully restored by its current owners, and is in excellent condition..
In the census of 1783, Mounce Bird had a family of eighteen whites and one black, the second largest household reported in the Smith Creek area. Some of Mounce and Clara's married children and grandchildren were probably living in the home at the time, contributing to the high number..
Mounce Bird was a soldier in the Dunmore County (Virginia) Militia under the command of Capt. Jacob Holeman in May 1775.
