He may have lived on his father, Christian's place in Strasburg until his father's death in 1724. (Christian's tract was a long narrow plot extending 1/2 mile north & south along Pequa Creek . It starts at the western edge on current day Strasburg city limits. His oldest son Michael's first (Pequa) tract is furrther down the creek along Penn Grant Road. This land was hilly and not very good for farming)By will gave his Geo Gray !DEED: Lanc G-160 gave 110A to son Michael. Michael and his wife were immigrants to America in 1717. They came to Pennsylvania with Michael's father, Christian. Michael was granted the right to take up and have surveyed 200 acres of land. This warrant is recorded in Harrisburg, PA, Book D, Vol. 82, p. 159.He selected a tract on the banks of the Pequea Creek, a short distance downstream from his father's tract. This homestead lies partly in Strasburg and partly in Providence townships (formerly old Martic township).Although Michael retained ownership in the Pequea Creek land for many years, he did not reside there for long. He probably selected the land originally to locate near his father and family. It is very hilly however and can not be called good farm land.Michael moved northwest about five miles to Conestoga Creek. He is listed in the 1725 Tax List of Lancaster Co. (then Chester Co.) as "Michael Shanks of George Gray's place". He did not receive deeds to Gray's two places until 1740. He lived here for 35 years until his death. This location is bounded on the south by "Kings Road" which is a very busy highway now known as "Long Lane". Traveling west on Long Lane about four miles south of the City of Lancaster, one comes to Leamon Lane which turns northward toward the town of Millersville. This intersection marks the southeast corner of Michael Shank's two tracts which extended all the way north to Conestoga Creek. All of Michael's children are named in his will which he wrote on 17 March 1759. He died shortly thereafter and his will was probated on 20 May 1759. It is recorded in Will Book 1, p. 264.
