January 3, 1823. 7.590 Lot ocupied by Joseph Gladden to wife: Susan Leib and all my children, said wife to maintain children during minority. Sons: George Clinton, Henry Franklin my books, fowling pieces etc., Trustees, friends Stephen Simmons, Joseph Stouse, Caleb Carmalt, also to be guardian of my children with said wife. Brother: John L. Leib. Sisters: Lydia Harrison, Sarah Riley. Exec: Wife: Susan. Said Trustees. Brother in law: John Harrison. Witnesses: John Simmons, Jonathan Carmalt, Jr.

1901 - Our Family Ancestors by Thomas Maxwell Potts: Dr. Leib was a powerful factor in Pennsylvania politics for many years. He was elected a Member of Congress in 1802, and to a second term in 1804. He was elected a Member of Assembly in 1807, and United States Senator in 1809. In 1814, he was made Postmaster of Philadelphia, but the opposition was so strong against the appointment, that he was afterward removed, and soon dropped out of politics.
