Early Land Acquisition in Augusta County, VA
Acquisition of Land in Augusta County, VA:
- Michael Dickey acquired two tracts "on head branches of Naked Creek" of 350 and 170 acres, prior to August 1749, as shown in Chalkley's records, listed below. It is probable that if the deed was recorded prior to late 1745 that it is likely located in Orange County (the predecessor county of Augusta), Virginia records.
- Page 259.--17th January, 1792. William Wilson and Elizabeth to Michael Dickey, James Allen, Thomas Fraim, Alexander Robertson, Jos. Bell, Robert Kinney, David Stephenson, James Seawright, William Young and William Craig, trustees of Augusta Stone Meeting House Congregation, the graveyard contagious to said Meeting House. (Note: Michael Dickey was one of the trustees of the Stone Meeting House Congregation).

- Page 21.--22d April, 1799. Michael Dickey's will---To sons, John and William; to son James, in Kentucky; to daughter. Mary Greer; to daughters. Margaret Kirkpatrick, Mary Greer, and Elizabeth Beard; to grandchildren, Mary and James Oliver, whose father lives in Georgia to daughter, Jean Oliver. Executors, Wm. Young, Sr., of Augusta, and son-in-law David Beard, of Rockbridge. Teste: Wm. Wilson, James Young, Hugh Brown. Proved, 25th November. 1805, by Wilson and Brown. Beard is dead and Young refuses. And at 27th January, 1806, John Dickey and Dickey Beard apply for administration. Elizabeth Beard also applies. Administration granted John Dickey and Elizabeth Beard. John refuses to act in conjunction with any one else, and Elizabeth qualifies.
