    "The first name of the widow Marshfield is revealed in Thomas B. Warren's typescript Springfield Families (Springfield 1934-35), copies of which are at Connecticut Valley Historical Museum in Springfield, NEHGS, and elsewhere. Warren reports that widow Mercy Marshfield was buried in Springfield on 30 Sept. 1654 (2:450-51). Joseph Carvalho III, Director of the Connecticut Valley Historical Museum, has provided a photocopy of the original record from the first volume of Springfield Vital Records (1640-1728):

    Mercy Marchfeild widow was Buried the 30 of the 7 [Sept.] mon: 1654

    Without question, this is the burial record of Thomas Marshfield's widow."
