    Jonathan Bell, only son of Francis and Rebecca Bell, was one of the leading men of Stamford, being a selectman, representative, lieutenant and captain. He died March 11, 1699. He married, first, August 22, 1662, Mercy Crane, daughter of Jasper and Alice Crane of New Haven. She was born in February, 1645 and died October 26, 1671. Their children, all born in Stamford, were: Jonathan, Hannah and Rebecca. Jonathan Bell married, second, October 31, 1672, Susanna Pierson, daughter of the Reverend Abraham and Abigail (Wheelright) Pierson of Branford, Conn. Their children, all born in Stamford, were: Abigail, Abraham, Mercy, John, a daughter, James, Susanna and Mary.
