Mr. Melvin Shaefer of 1054 5th Ave. N. W. Moose Jaw, passed away in a local hospital on Tuesday, July 17th 1979 at the age of 76 years. Born at Adair, IA, U.S.A. in 1903 the family moved when he was a young boy to Eskbank, Saskatchewan, where he received his education. He married the former Fern Bender, December 4, 1942, at Moose Jaw. Mr. Shaefer was employed with the Co-op Creamery in the Moose Jaw, retiring here and residing here until the time of his passing. He was a life member of St. Georges Masonic Lodge No. 136, a member of the Royal Arch Masons, G.R.S., Moose Jaw Chapter 3, life member of Damascus Preceptory No. 58, member of Mezpah Chapter No. 1 O.E.S., honorary life member of the Horticultural Society. Predeceased by his parents, one brother, Roy, two sisters, Ruby and Flo, he is survived by his wife Fern Moose Jaw, one brother Larence, Bellflower, CA, several nieces and nephews. The funeral services will be held at the W. Jones & Sons Chapel on Friday, July 20th at 1:30 p.m. Reverend L. Calvert will officiate and interment will follow in the Rosedale Cemetery.
