Known to her grandchildren and great grandchildren as "Nana," she lived in an apartment in Pittsburgh after the death of her husband in order to be near her two children there. In 1955 she moved to Mathews County, Virginia, to live with my grandmother. She was always active in church affairs, especially the Presbyterian Church in New York and Pittsburgh.

"Nana" was a vivacious person with a pleasant disposition. Throughout her long life she was a expert bridge player with masters points, and an eager participant in any available social activity. From a life-long interest in family history, she collected considerable information and many belongings, which various members of the family still have. I knew her very well and enjoyed listening to her frequent retelling of stories of family history and personal experiences.
