    Matthew Pilson was born on 30 November 1799. He was the son of George Pilson and Elizabeth Thomson. He resided in Augusta County, Virginia. On 5 November 1834, he married Lavinia Finley (1810-1882). They had thirteen children. He died on 30 March 1891 and is buried in the family cemetery in Augusta County.
