Matthew Mitchell, his wife, Susan Wood Mitchell and four children, David, Sarah, Jonathan and Hannah came to America with Benjamin and Ann Jundon Butterfield (and Mary and Benjamin), and Samuel Butterfield (half brother to Benjaman and Susan Wood). They sailed on the ship James on Saturday 23 May 1635 from Bristol, England and apparently arrived at Charleston or Boston. Also on the ship were the Sherman Family and the family of the Rev. Richard Mather. Two more Mitchell children were probably with them ( Abagail and Mary).

The James of Bristol (1635)
At least three ships called the James sailed in 1635 from England to New England. This one sailed with the Angel Gabriel and three smaller ships, the Bess, the Diligent, and the Mary. The James and the Angel Gabriel were caught in a great storm off the coast of North America. The Angel Gabriel wrecked off the coast of Maine, the James survived barely, making it to Boston after more than 12 weeks at sea.
