After three of his brothers were killed in the disastrous attempt to rob two banks at once in Coffeyville, Kansas, Mason "Bill" Dalton hooked up with Bill Doolin to form the new Doolin-Dalton gang. He was killed by a posse in Oklahoma and his body shipped to California to be buried in his wife's family plot. (There are also various stories -- legends -- that he survived after 1900 and eventually died somewhere in the mountains in California, but there is no real evidence of this.)
