Family tree▼ Facts and Events
Mary Wild was baptised on 2nd January 1744 at Ockbrook in Derbyshire, daughter of Ann Wild, formerly Buck, and her husband John Wild, a farmer. Mary was the second of their three daughters. Some time between 1745 and 1747 the family left Ockbrook and moved to Owthorpe in Nottinghamshire, nearly twenty miles to the east. Mary's mother died there in 1747, when Mary was only three years old. Mary's father married again the following year. His second wife was a Mary Capps, who thus became Ann's stepmother. Mary had seven younger half siblings from her father's second marriage, although two of them died young. On 4th June 1767 Mary married Edward Vose, a farmer from Bradmore in the parish of Bunny, about seven miles west of Owthorpe. They married at Bunny and went on to have eight children baptised there between 1767 and 1785, although three of their children died young. The children's baptisms generally note that the family lived at Bradmore. Back in Owthorpe, Mary's father died in 1770. He left Sarah one shilling, suggesting he felt he had adequately provided for her in his lifetime. Mary and Edward appear to have stayed in Bradmore for the rest of their lives. Edward died on in 1831 at Bradmore, when he was probably in his late eighties or early nineties. Mary survived him by nearly three years. She died at Bradmore on 15th April 1834, aged 90. She was buried three days later at Bunny. References
