Facts and Events
Name Mary Spring
Gender Female
Birth? 1764 Udny, Scotland
Christening[1] 20 Oct 1764 Udny, Scotland
Death? aft. 1799

Mary was born in 1764 in Udny, outside of Aberdeen, the third of five children. When her younger sister Christian married a prominent landowner in the parish of Birse in 1793, several of her siblings eventually followed. We have little record of Mary after her birth, except that she did witness a couple of baptisms of nieces and nephews in Birse. In the 1797 baptism of her niece Christian Sherrat in Birse, Mary and her brother Robert are witnesses. She is identified merely as "Miss Mary Spring". In the 1799 baptism of her niece Mary Sherrat, she is identified as "Miss Mary Spring at Finzean", indicating that she had joined her sisters Christian and Isobel in Finzean. A transcription of monumental inscriptions for Strachan parish lists a "----- Spring, Finzean, d. 4 Apr 1840", which could be our Mary (although her sisters were no longer living at Finzean by then).
