Mary Catherine Reid was born in 1891 in County Kildare. She appears to have been known as Kathleen. She was the daughter of Elizabeth Reid, formerly Bowe, and her husband William Reid, a bricklayer. Kathleen appears in both the 1901 and 1911 census living with her parents and siblings at Mary's Lane in Monasterevin. In 1911 she was described as a teacher.

Family tradition has it that Kathleen married a man named McCormack and had several children. The only plausible such marriage appears to be in Dublin in 1920, but the marriage certificate should be obtained to confirm. Kathleen has yet to be traced after this.
