Mary Penny was baptised on 2nd October 1791 at St Pinnock in Cornwall, daughter of a miller named William Penny and his wife Mary.

Mary worked as a domestic servant. She did not marry until she was 46 years old. Her husband was a widower named Robert Harry, who worked as a waterman. They married on 15th November 1837 at St Stephen by Saltash. The 1841 census finds Mary still working as a domestic servant at Culver Park in Saltash, whilst Robert was living at Tamar Street in the town on census night. The 1851 census finds them together at Culver Park, looking after Robert's granddaughter Sarah, whose mother (Robert's daughter Mary Ann) had died in 1843.

By 1861 they had left Culver Park and were living at Fore Street in Saltash.

Mary died on 5th December 1861 at Fore Street. She had been suffering with cancer of the womb for two years. Robert survived her by four years.

ch. 2 Oct 1791, St Pinnock: Mary daughter of William & Mary Peeny

This baptism has been linked to the Mary Penny who married Robert Harry in 1837 on the basis that in the 1851 and 1861 censuses she claimed to have been born around 1791 at St Pinnock, and her marriage certificate tells us that her father's name was William.
